Emirates Psychiatry Clinic in Dubai in Partnership with The London Psychiatry Centre Book Appointment
Welcome to Emirates Psychiatry Clinic in Dubai. In 2024 Emirates Hospitals Group & The London Psychiatry Centre launched an exciting partnership in Dubai to provide an integrated multidisciplinary psychiatry service, bringing the latest innovative evidence-based treatment techniques to the UAE.
Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
The World Health Organization’s definition of Health.
The London Psychiatry Centre is a pioneer in repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) treatment for depression and was the first clinic in the UK to offer this ground-breaking treatment. Now this treatment is available in the UAE in partnership with Emirates Hospitals Group.
Not All rTMS Providers Are Equal – Beat Depression
rTMS treatment administered by our experts has demonstrated a 61% and 66% remission rate in two separate studies, which is 200% better than providers using dTMS (deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) and 300% higher than the UK rTMS platinum standard. After working closely with the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK on the treatment of depression, rTMS went on to be adopted nationwide in the UK in 2016.
The below chart illustrates a sample of 252 patients from an audit conducted in July 2020. The London Psychiatry Centre is regulated and approved by the Care Quality Commission. In this sample 59% of women and 62% of men who were treated for Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) with rTMS have recovered.
The London Psychiatry Centre (TLPC) was 4 years ahead of the NHS in the UK and advised the National Institute of Clinical Excellence NICE in 2016 which eventually approved rTMS in the UK NHS in 2016. TLPC additionally advised a delegation from the Swedish Parliament, The Advanced Intervention Service of the University of Dundee, a delegation from 5 ex- Soviet Republics from the CIS, as well as several Universities in the UK and abroad to establish similar clinics. After working closely with the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK on the treatment of depression, rTMS went on to be adopted nationwide in the UK in 2016.
The Advanced Intervention Service independently audited TLPC results in 2014 and plotted the below chart for the improvement and eventual recovery on a week by week basis:
61% achieved remission (full recovery) within 6 weeks (4 weeks on average) and most were shown to be well for between 1-12 months with maintenance. 35% were non-responders to the treatment, 3% responded and the symptoms were shown to have improved by 50% and 1% responded and their symptoms have improved by 75%. No side effects were noted.
Our holistic approach combines the Medical, Psychiatric, Psychological, therapeutic and social aspects of a patient needs to ensure a personalized approach with industry leading outcomes can be achieved.
TLPC was the first and remains the only Mental Health provider to assess and manage cardiovascular health and hormonal health parallel or in Tandem with the management of Psychiatric and Stress related conditions due to the impact of these on the heart, and our EHG team is following the same model to optimise patients’ health from all angles. In addition, TLPC and EHG use WHO scales to measure recovery outcomes with the focus not only being elimination of illness or disease but improving quality of life, eliminating side effect burden and improving marital, professional and family life for its Patients. We are not about “Disease management” but about “Health management”. EHG is proud to have brought excellence through its partnership with TLPC to Dubai.
TLPC was the first centre to publish its outcomes in peer reviewed journals from 2014 in the UK and the results were 3 times superior to the platinum standard published in 2024 from 5 different academic centres in the UK.
The ‘Sequenced Treatment Alternatives to Relieve Depression’ (STAR*D) was a collaborative study on the treatment of depression, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health in the UK. Its focus was on the treatment of depression in patients where the first prescribed antidepressant proved inadequate.
When the STAR D patients were followed up for 12 months after completing their treatment, only 2.7% of patients were well and accounted for, compared to 45% with rTMS with maintenance. We therefore recommend maintenance to our patients in order to maximise the chances of staying well.
Note: The comparison results quoted above are when rTMS is compared with figures of the STAR-D protocol for the treatment of resistant depression, the most advanced evidence-based protocol in the world.
Our holistic approach combines the psychiatric, psychological, therapeutic and social aspects of a patient needs to ensure a personalized approach with industry leading outcomes can be achieved. Our innovative methods and technology are backed by published peer-reviewed results, which is why our psychiatrists are considered among the best psychiatrists in Dubai. Our team use a variety of treatments – including various forms of psychotherapy, medications, and psychosocial interventions depending on the needs of each patient. The aim of the treatment is to relieve the symptoms, restore and optimize the functioning of the patient in all life areas.
Recently, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan’s launched a DH105 million mental health initiative as part of the wider Dubai Social Agenda 33 Mental Wealth Framework. This initiative aims to support residents of Dubai so they may navigate the challenges of day to day life and ensure Dubai is the World’s best City for living, working and visiting.
In partnership with the London Psychiatry Centre, Emirates Hospital Group has introduced the first repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) based liaison service in the World. This programme is led by Dr Andy Zamar, Medical Director, Consultant Psychiatrist and Founder of The London Psychiatry Centre in London in the UK.
“It is the beginning of a new era in mental health care for the UAE, providing the very best interventions for mental health to help individuals manage demands of everyday life”. – Dr Andy Zamar
The main difference is that psychiatrists are medical doctors (MDs) who can prescribe medication and provide medical treatment for mental health conditions, while psychologists typically hold a doctoral degree in psychology and focus on therapy and counseling without prescribing medications.
Psychiatric medicine involves the use of medications to treat mental health disorders. Psychiatrists evaluate patients and may prescribe antidepressants, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, or anti-anxiety medications as part of a comprehensive treatment plan to manage symptoms and improve overall mental health.
