ACDF surgery in Dubai at Emirates Hospitals Group. Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) is a spine surgery used to relieve neck and arm pain caused by conditions of the cervical spine. It involves the removal of a herniated or degenerative disc and the fusion of the vertebrae with bone grafts, metal implants, or both.

At Emirates Hospitals Dubai our expert Orthopedic Spine Surgeons and Neurosurgeons are Board Certified and specialise in minimally invasive spine surgery techniques including ACDF spine surgery in Dubai. The goal of ACDF surgery is to relieve pressure on the spinal cord, reduce nerve root compression, and stabilize the cervical spine.

The ACDF Spine Surgery Procedure

The procedure is normally performed under general anesthesia, and the surgeon will make an incision in the front of the neck. The herniated or degenerative disc is removed and the vertebrae are fused together with metal implants or bone grafts. A cervical plate may also be used to stabilize the neck and promote fusion in some cases.

Once the procedure is complete, the incision is closed with sutures and you will be taken to the recovery room for observation.

Recovery from ACDF Surgery

Recovery from ACDF surgery usually takes several weeks. During the initial recovery period, you will usually focus on minimizing neck pain and swelling. This may involve:

  • Taking pain medications
  • Wearing a neck brace
  • Applying ice or heat to the neck.
  • Physical therapy to help with post-operative strengthening and stretching of the neck.

After the initial recovery period, you should start to notice some improvement in your neck pain, strength, and range of motion. Most patients will eventually be able to resume their normal daily activities, though restrictions may apply for certain activities, such as sports or heavy lifting.

It can take several months for the fusion to be complete, and you will need to continue to wear the neck brace and follow the physical therapy program given to you.

With proper planning and the right recovery process, most patients should be able to return to their normal activities after a successful ACDF surgery in Dubai at Emirates Hospitals Group.
