Circumcision is a common surgical procedure that involves the removal of the foreskin from the penis. This procedure is often performed on newborns for cultural, religious, or medical reasons, but it can also be done at any age. At Emirates Hospitals Group, we offer expert circumcision services with a focus on safety, precision, and compassionate care for both children and parents. Our team of experienced pediatric surgeons is dedicated to ensuring a comfortable and safe experience for your child.

Parents choose circumcision for a variety of reasons, including cultural or religious practices, hygiene, and preventive health measures. In some cases, circumcision is recommended for medical reasons, such as phimosis (a condition where the foreskin is too tight and cannot be retracted), recurrent infections, or other urological conditions.

While the decision to circumcise is personal, it is important to have access to reliable medical information and support to ensure the best outcome for your child. At Emirates Hospitals Group, we take the time to explain the procedure, its benefits, and what parents can expect during the recovery process.

Circumcision Procedure

Circumcision is a relatively simple and quick procedure, typically lasting around 20-30 minutes. At Emirates Hospitals Group, the surgery is performed by highly skilled pediatric surgeons in a sterile environment to ensure the safety and comfort of your child.

  • For Newborns: In most cases, circumcision is performed within the first few days after birth. The baby is given a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort, and the foreskin is carefully removed. Newborns tend to heal quickly, with full recovery in about one to two weeks.
  • For Older Children or Adults: If the procedure is done at a later age, general anesthesia or sedation may be used to ensure comfort. The process is similar, but recovery may take slightly longer, and special care may be needed to manage discomfort during healing.

Postoperative Care and Recovery

After the circumcision procedure, parents will be provided with detailed instructions on how to care for their child’s incision site. Most children recover quickly, and the surgical area heals within a couple of weeks. During this time, it is essential to keep the area clean and follow any instructions provided by your surgeon.
