Bariatric Surgery in Dubai at Emirates Hospitals Group. We take a multidisciplinary approach to ensure you are provided with the most optimal treatment plan to reach your weight and life goals. Also known as weight-loss surgery, we offer a range of minimally invasive procedures that modify the digestive system to promote weight loss and improve health outcomes in individuals with obesity.

This can be a powerful alternative to consider after conservative methods such as diet and exercise haven’t achieved sufficient results, and/or when obesity poses a significant health risk.

Am I a candidate for Bariatric Surgery?

Generally, bariatric surgery is recommended for individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher (considered morbid obesity). However it can also be an option for those with a BMI of 35 or more who have serious weight-related comorbidities such as diabetes, sleep apnea, or severe joint pain.

Our medical team will ensure a 360 evaluation before considering surgery to ensure you are mentally and physically prepared for a surgery that also requires commitment to long-term lifestyle changes post-surgery.

Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgeries:

  • Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y) – This is the most common procedure. It creates a small pouch in the stomach, limiting food intake. The small intestine is then rerouted to bypass a portion of the intestine, reducing nutrient and calorie absorption.
  • Sleeve Gastrectomy – This procedure removes about 80% of the stomach, resulting in a banana-shaped sleeve. This restricts food intake and alters gut hormones that regulate hunger and satiety.
  • Duodenum Switch Surgery (Regular)
  • Duodenum Switch SADI Surgery (Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileostomy)
  • Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD-DS) – This is a complex surgery combining elements of gastric bypass and malabsorptive procedures. It restricts food intake and significantly reduces the absorption of nutrients.
