General Instructions:

  • Adequate water intake is crucial. Aim for 3 L per day to avoid constipation
  • Physical exercise is important for your gut health. A 30-40 minutes daily walk will do it
  • Gradual increase in your fiber intake after surgery is recommended
  • Focus on high fiber food items especially whole fruits and vegetables
  • Include fibers in every meal during the day. This can be done through adding spinach to your omelet, fruits to your breakfast bowel, and apples to your salad.
  • Reduce consumption of processed food items, dairy products, and red meats
  • You can use the concept of “My Plate” to help you guarantee the intake of your required fiber

Food items that are high in fibers include:

  • Whole grains such as whole wheat bread and pasta, brown rice, and oats
  • Vegetables with high water content such as cucumber, lettuce, celery, and capsicum. Also the green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and broccoli
  • Colored fruits like strawberries and blueberries, in addition to apples, grapes, and pears
  • Dried fruits such as dates, raisins, dried figs, apricot, and prunes
  • Raw nuts like almonds and walnuts

All legumes such as beans, lentil, fava beans, and chickpeas
